چکیده

I will be dealing principally with the musical experience of the analyst of performance, and in particular with the problematic nature of its transmission to others (i.e. the readers and listeners of his publications). Given the crucial importance of the individual and collective auditory culture of musicologists in their daily work, this theme can not only be considered as an epistemological issue; it is above all one of method, which comes into play in the genesis of analytical facts (notably through the use of new specific software) as well as in their public exposition (in particular through the use of renewed conventions in musicological writing).

Ethnographic Observations of Musicologists at the British Library: Implications for Music Information Retrieval

Without a rich understanding of user behaviours and needs, music information retrieval (MIR) systems might not be ideally suited to their potential users. Observat...

Relationship between Intelligence Quotient and Musical Ability in Children with Cochlear Implantation

Introduction: Children with cochlear implants (CIs) may experience few opportunities for positive musical experiences, and musical perception is therefore often not sufficiently developed. This paper investigates and discusses the relationship between intelligence quotient (IQ) and musical ability in children with CIs compared with children with normal hearing.                                  ...

An empirical approach to studying intonation tendencies in choral performances

Main contribution. In the computational component of the research a number of a cappella choral recordings are analyzed with signal processing techniques to estimate the perceived fundamental frequencies for the sung notes. Local signal processing measures determine the precise instantaneous frequency in the neighborhood of the fundamentals anticipated from the score. Averaging these features o...

Imitating Human Performances to Automatically Generate Expressive Jazz Ballads

One of the main problems with the automatic generation of expressive musical performances is that human performers use musical knowledge that is not explicitly noted in musical scores. Moreover, this knowledge is tacit, difficult to verbalize, and therefore it must be acquired through a process of observation, imitation, and experimentation. For this reason, AI approaches based on declarative k...

Towards Automated Extraction of Tempo Parameters from Expressive Music Recordings

A performance of a piece of music heavily depends on the musician’s or conductor’s individual vision and personal interpretation of the given musical score. As basis for the analysis of artistic idiosyncrasies, one requires accurate annotations that reveal the exact timing and intensity of the various note events occurring in the performances. In the case of audio recordings, this annotation is...
